Viivi Jaanimagi

Viivi Jaanimagi was born in Odessa, Ukraine, returning to Estonia with her family while she was still quite young.

She started to paint in 1981, studying art history, drawing and painting at the University of Toronto (Erindale and Scarborough Colleges) and at the Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario.

She has exhibited her work at juried shows at the Art Gallery of Northcumberland in Cobourg, Ontario (1988-1990). In 1990 at the 13th Annual Juried Regional Exhibition featuring Northcumberland County artists, Viivi Jaanimagi's work "Old Shack in Keene, Ontario" (pen and ink) was printed on the front page of the exhibition catalogues.

Since joining EKKT in 1989 she has participated in all the Society's Art shows, including 1989 at the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre Gallery; 1990 at a juried show at York University, Toronto at which her work "In Prayer" (monoprint) received Honourable Mention; 1992 Esto Festival Juried Art Show in New York, USA; 1995 at a Juried Art Exhibition at the Estonian House in Toronto and in 1996 at Kastellaanimaja Gallery in Tallinn, Estonia.

In 1996 Jaanimagi received a Volunteer Service Award from the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture at Toronto City Hall and attended a reception at Queen's Park by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario the Honourable Hal Jackman.

Many of her paintings are found in private collections throughout Canada, Estonia, United States, England and Sweden. Her monoprint "In Prayer" is at the Toronto Estonian House.

Jaanimagi likes to work in pen and ink, watercolour and acrylic. She is interested in portrait painting and life drawing. She currently resides in West Hill, Toronto, Ontario.

Sündinud Odessa linnas Ukrainas. Oli varases lapseeas, kui perekond asus tagasi Eestisse.

Hakkas maalima 1981.a., õppides kunstiajalugu, joonistamist ja maalimist Toronto Ulikoolis (Erindale ja Scarborough College'is) ja Loyalist College'is Belleville'is, Ontarios. On esinenud zÿüriinäitustel Northcumberlandi Kunstigaleriis Cobourgis, Ontarios (1988-1990). 1990 trükiti tema töö, sule- ja tindijoonistus "Old Shack in Keene Ontario" selle näituse kavade esileheküljele.

Astus EKKT liikmeks 1989.a., esinedes grupiga Läti-Kanada Kultuurikeskuse Galeriis. Võtnud osa kõikidest EKKT kunstinäitustest.

1990.a. zÿürii-kunstinäitusel York Ulikoolis, Torontos sai tema töö "In Prayer" märkimisväärse tunnustuse. 1992.a. esines oma töödega Esto pidustuste kunstinäitusel New Yorgis, USA-s. 1995.a.
zÿürii-kunstinäitus Eesti Majas, Torontos. 1996.a. Kastellaanimaja Galeriis, Tallinnas, Eestis.

1996.a. sai Volunteer Service Award'i Ontario Kodakondsus- ja Kultuuriministeeriumi poolt Toronto

City Hall'is. Osales vastuvõtul Queen's Park'is, mille korraldas Ontario leitnant-kuberner H. Jackman.

Töid erakogudes Kanadas, Eestis, USA-s, Inglismaal ja Rootsis. Tema töö "In Prayer" (monoprint) on Toronto Eesti Majas. Meeldib töötada sule ja tindiga, vesi- ja akrüülvärvidega. Huvitatud portree maalimisest ja akti joonistamisest.
