Ruth Tulving

Born in 1930 in Tartu, Estonia, Ruth Tulving is a Canadian painter-printmaker and lecturer. Tulving graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1962 and has done post-graduate work in California and Paris, France. Tulving has exhibited widely throughout North America, Europe and Asia with many individual exhibitions. A recipient of numerous awards and prizes, Tulving completed a successful exhibition-lecture tour through the Peoples' Republic of China.

Her works are in many museums as well as government and private collections including State Art Museum, Tallinn, Estonia; State Museum of Art in Beijing, China; City of Stockholm Collection; Canada Council Art Bank Collection; Ontario House Collection, London, England; Canadian Embassy Collection, Paris, France; Estonian Embassy Collection, London, England; Canadian Embassy Collection, Tallinn, Estonia; Embassy of USA Collection, Tallinn, Estonia; Estonian Embassy Collection, Washington, USA.

Selected museums and university collections include: Ruskin School of Art; Yale University; Stanford University; University of California, Davis; University of Toronto, Scarborough; Washington University, St.
Louis; also many Public Art Museums throughout Canada.

Recently Ruth Tulving's focus has centered on Estonia where she has held many one-person exhibitions, notably at the Estonian State Museum (1984); at the Tallinn Vaal Gallery (1992 & 1998); in Narva (1994, 1996 and 1998); Kohtla-Järve (1996); Jõhvi (1987 and 1998); Sillamäe (1998); Tartu (1987) and Viljandi (1999).

Ruth Tulving was elected Member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 1977.

From 1997 to the present she has been an artist in residence at the Washington University, St. Louis, Department of Psychology.

Rutt Tulving on pööranud palju tähelepanu ka Eestile, kus tal on olnud arvukalt ühe-mehe näitusi, märkimisväärsed on Eesti Riiklikus Muuseumis 1984, Tallinnas Vaal Galeriis 1992, 1998, Narvas 1994, 1996, 1998, Kohtla-Järvel 1996, Jõhvis 1987, 1998, Sillamäel 1998, Tartus 1987, Viljandis 1999.
