Linda Landre

Born in Puhja, Estonia, Landre received her primary school education at Puhja Grammar School. Thereafter she attended high school in Tartu and later studied pharmacy at the University of Tartu. Due to the political unrest and turmoil caused by the Second World War, Linda fled to Germany and in 1948 immigrated to Canada.

Already at the primary school level Landre was drawn to and participated actively in the school's arts program, which included music, painting, acting and singing, but time and circumstances did not permit her to further these interests beyond the scope of the school program. It was not until later in Canada that she began taking evening courses from private teachers in Chinese and Japanese ink painting (sumi-e). She also attended evening classes at the Ontario College of Art, Fine Arts Department, achieving second year level, thereafter again turning to private teachers. Her painting often conveys oriental influence, but her aim is to express the less tangible mood of the subject.

Landre is a member of the Toronto Watercolour Society, Sumi-e Artists of Canada, Society of Estonian Artists in Toronto and Toronto Estonian House Arts Committee. She has exhibited her work in several group shows in Toronto and also in Tallinn, Estonia.

Sündinud Eestis, Puhja kihelkonnas. Omandas alghariduse Puhja algkoolis. Järgnevalt siirdus Tartusse, kus õppis Tütarlaste Gümnaasiumis. Aastal 1943 astus Tartu Ulikooli rohuteaduse osakonda.
Sõjaoludest tingituna põgenes Saksamaale ja aastal 1948 emigreerus Kanadasse.

Juba varastel kooliaastatel tundis huvi maalimise vastu ja võttis aktiivselt osa kooli kunstilistest üritustest. Kuigi tolleaegsed olud ei võimaldanud kunstiliste huvide arendamist, jäid varased muljed siiski püsima ja hiljem hakkas Linda Kanadas edasi õppima, võttes kursuseid hiina ja jaapani maalitehnikates.

Hiljem õppis Ontario Kunstikoolis (Ontario College of Art), omandades 2. aasta taseme, siis jätkas õpinguid eraviisiliselt.

Olles mõjustatud kohalikust (lääne), samuti ka hiina ja jaapani stiilist, on Linda püüdeks tabada olukorra meeleolu.

Linda kuulub järgmistesse organisatsioonidesse: Toronto Watercolour Society, Sumi-e Artists of Canada, Eesti Kunstnike Koondis Torontos, Toronto Eesti Maja Kunstikomitee.

Linda on võtnud osa mitmetest grupinäitustest Torontos ja Tallinnas.
